Ghost Town

Went to the cinema today to see a movie called Ghost Town. Now Im a big fan of Ricky Gervais, as two of my favourite TV shows are the UK version of The Office and Extras. This movie, however is less slapstick comedy and more dramatic. The snapshot of the movie is that its about death and unresolved stuff that people need to deal with in order for spirits to be transported to the afterlife. Worth seeing.

Weather extremes

Have to say that the weather has been a little confusing. A couple of weeks ago there was extreme heat and bushfires (still exists in southern part of Australia), but the past week there has been non-stop rain in Sydney! Been nice to have Sydney cooled off and my weary and withered garden renewed, however now they are warning of potential threat of flooding! Bizarre! Global warming effects perhaps? Aliens? lol
Thanks to all my friends overseas who have been enquiring re the bushfires. Although they arent near me at this time, the devastation of the 180+ lives lost has touched our whole nation. In addition to the loss of life, there was also mass loss of flora, fauna and property, in fact some whole towns were wiped out. The photo below is sooooo cute and depicts how the tragedy has also impacted nature.

Bushfires...

Australia is really suffering with this extreme heat. Some parts of the country have reached 47 degrees celsius and there are currently 59 separate fires burning around NSW alone. In other parts of Australia it is even worse, with 0ver 100 people having already been reported dead as a result of the fires. The number is growing... here is a link to our web news for updates.

The past month...

So what have I been up to over the past month? Nothing too exciting actually, mostly trying to escape the heat with my pool. Did go to a Bollywood themed hens night last weekend though which was pretty cool as we dressed in indian clothes, danced bollywood style, got our hands painted in henna and ate some delicious indian food before breaking out in karaoke... lol

The heatwave...

Sydney has become a hotbox over the past month with consistently hot temperatures, often in the late 30's-40s. Wanna swap? Taped this video while driving today.

Resolutions

Each New Years Eve I traditionally spend time reflecting upon the year thats been and start setting goals for the coming year. This year, for some reason, I was surprisingly lax. Havent really taken the time to reflect upon what has gone and yet to cement my goals for 2009. Does this mean I have become slack? No, perhaps Im just learning to chillax (no, chillax is not a formal word, so dont look it up in the english dictionary lol. Its just a colloquial combination of the words "chill" and "relax". lol)

Truth be told, I am a planner... a goal orientated person. I enjoy making lists and get great satisfaction in being able to cross off things Ive achieved. So its surprising really that Ive delayed setting these goals. One possible reason for not having rushed it this year is that it can be frustrating to NOT have completed set goals. There are some goals that have been reappearing over the past couple of years, namely; to write a book and to learn to play my dusty acoustic guitar! lol... Having said that, last year was in fact a milestone year for me, in that I travelled the world for the first time in 10 years and crammed in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and my dream holiday to Italy and Paris. We also bought our first house which was long in the planning and my career has been going from strength to strength. All in all a fantastic year!

So here is my initial attempt to jot down some things I want to have achieved by the time I come to celebrate January 2010 (omg thats a scary date... sounds almost like a space age oddessy).

  1. Learn to play the guitar in my room that has not seen the light of day since it was purchased 3 years ago. (in fact just took it out of its case for the above photo! lol)
  2. Purchase a digital SLR camera and do a formal photography course so I can continue to explore my passion for macro photography.
  3. Wear less black (except in SL lol)
  4. Develop more patience.... after all, apparently its a virtue! lol
  5. Learn to speak italian properly! Better late than never! lol
  6. Procrastinate less... DAMN IT!... will this goal NEVER leave my list? lol

Of course there are going to be other goals that I want to achieve, but Im not gonna make a difinitive list, cause then you will be able to hold me to it... and we cant have that... damn accountability crap! lol. Am happy for you to ask about my guitar playing though.... cause just before I respond to your question, I will grab the guitar, strum one fret, and then tell you with a twinge of self-delusion that its been going well! lol!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2009! Wishing all my friends a wonderful new year filled with great memories. Thanks for the amazing friendships I've made with each of you in 2008. Its been unforgettable! Below is a video I took at a friends house on NYE. There were about 20 of us around the house - in the pool, by the barbecue, on the dancefloor.... but when it hit 11.55, we all crammed into the living room to welcome in the New Year. Was a fun night! Bet you all love the Aussie accents during our countdown to midnight! lol
